The torch continues its journey, igniting the spirit of Panama on the road to the South American Youth Games 2026. After its stop in Los Santos, the South American flame arrived in the province of Herrera, in a day that reaffirms the country is preparing to experience Games AT ANOTHER LEVEL.
Herrera, founded in 1915 and with its emblematic capital Chitré, welcomed the flame in an atmosphere of celebration and sporting pride. The relay took place at the iconic Parque Unión, the heart of activity in the province, where local athletes gathered to be part of this historic moment.
The torchbearer was Edward Díaz, a standout basketball player, who led the route alongside young local talents set to participate in the South American Youth Games Panama 2026. Among them were chess player Christian Rodríguez, along with athletes such as Cristian Bósquez (boxing), Lía Poveda (karate), Víctor De León (boxing), Ashley Navarro (taekwondo), and Francisco De León (swimming).
The event also featured the presence of Antón, the official mascot of the Games, who interacted with the crowd and spent time with Herrera’s baseball team currently competing in Panama’s Major Baseball Championship, bringing a sense of joy and youthful spirit that defines this major sporting event.
With the energy of its people and the talent of its athletes, Herrera experienced an unforgettable relay that strengthens the road to the 2026 South American Youth Games. The torch continues its route, with its next stop in Coclé, carrying a clear message across each province: the South American Youth Games are getting closer and promise to be, without a doubt, AT ANOTHER LEVEL.
