In a match marked by intensity and tactical balance, the men’s national teams of Argentina and Paraguay drew
1-1 at Estadio Rommel Fernández, in the third round of Group A of the IV South American Youth Games. The match, played this Wednesday, April 15, 2026, ended with a share of the points after a game decided by fine margins in both penalty areas.
The Paraguayan side, coached by Wilfrido Bazán, managed to open the scoring late in the first half. In the 42nd minute, Ever Corrales scored the goal that gave the Albirroja the lead, allowing them to go into halftime with a narrow advantage, after a first half in which their defensive organization managed to neutralize the Argentine team’s attacks.
In the second half, the Argentine side, led by Claudio Gugnali, came out with a more offensive approach. Their persistence paid off in the 57th minute, when Joaquín López sent the ball into the net after a precise assist from Mateo Arrieta. Although Argentina dominated possession with 62%, they were unable to turn that control into a winning goal.
The closing stages of the match were filled with tension and physical play, leading to repeated interventions by referee Franco Jiménez. The negative note for Argentina was the sending off of Juan Aimale in the 84th minute after receiving a straight red card, leaving his team with ten players in the final moments. With this result, both teams keep their hopes alive in the tournament, which continues to take place in the Panamanian capital.
