JSJ Panama 2026

The official start of tennis in the fourth edition of the South American Youth Games has left extremely positive impressions and a deep sense of gratitude among international delegations. Mikel Pérez, representative of the Venezuelan Tennis Federation, shared his impressions about arriving in Panama and the incredible logistical work of the event.

One of the points on which the representative placed the greatest emphasis discussing it even with Miguel Ordoñez, Director of PANDEPORTES was the enormous human effort required to prepare the courts of the Panamanian Tennis Federation at the Fred Maduro complex. He arrived at the facilities three days earlier with the goal of adapting and evaluating the conditions of the venue. The refurbishment of the site was an extremely challenging task, and he even doubted it could be completed on time. Nevertheless, an impressive round-the-clock work operation was carried out throughout the weekend.

Beyond the courts, Pérez highlighted the added value provided by the organization to ensure that the countries feel extremely comfortable and satisfied, especially the athletes. Although the weather is a factor that cannot be controlled, hydration was guaranteed at each court, recovery tables were set up, and a team of physiotherapists was available for all nations. He also emphasized the work of the volunteers, who are a fundamental part of the success of these Games in Panama.

Pérez admitted that he feels deeply honored and blessed to be back in Panama after 12 years of absence. “The change is incredible,” said the official, who also described the city as a metropolis and highlighted the warmth of the Panamanian people, as well as the immense kindness shown by the organizing committee.

To conclude, the official praised the opening of the event, where a Panamanian player (Isabella Leurck) had the honor of opening the main court by facing a Venezuelan player (Sabrina Balderrama), ranked in the world top 100. He highlighted how invaluable it is for any athlete to compete in their own country, surrounded by family, their federation, and friends.
